About MAT:


Getting admission to top MBA colleges in India is like dream come true for every management course aspirant. But before clearing the admission process, students have to clear the entrance exams needed to get at least initial interview call from the MBA colleges. Several entrance exams are conducted at national level to extract best of management talent from the pool of students. MAT (Management Aptitude Test) entrance exam is standardized test conducted at all India level since 1988 where best of students are tested and screened before getting admission.


MAT entrance was approved by Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD as a national level test in the year 2003. Even many of the International B-schools consider the MAT scores issued in the score card as a base to find out best of students. This entrance exam is accepted by 600+ B-schools across India.


Eligibility guidelines:


MAT entrance exams are held 4 times in a year in the months of February, May, September and December. Minimum graduate degree or equivalent degree is needed from any recognized university to appear for MAT. Even students in their final year of graduate degree can appear for it at provision level. The percentage requirement in graduation may differ from MIs to universities for which you have to refer their prospectus. Students can opt for either the Paper based test or Computer based test for MAT entrance exam.

MAT's test paper pattern:


This exam is objective type with multiple choice answers. The motive behind MAT is to measure general aptitude of the appearing candidate in a number of ways. The question papers consist of questions on the following subjects:

  • English Language, Grammar & Comprehension.
  • Mathematical Skills & Quantitative Ability.
  • Data analysis / Data Interpretation.
  • Logical Reasoning / Ability skills.
  • General Awareness of the Indian and Global environment

Procedure to Apply:


Students can apply for MAT entrance exam by either of three modes:

  • Get the form from the MAT bulletin/ CD against cash payment of Rs. 1200 from Nodal centers of AIMA.
  • Register online at website link: http://apps.aima.in/matmay14 with Credit Card/Debit Card (ATM Card) by making payment of Rs.1200 or
  • Acquire DD of Rs.1200 in favor of ‘All India Management Association' payable at Delhi from any bank. Register online at website link: http along with the DD details.

Difference between MAT and other popular entrance exams:

  • MAT is conducted by Centre for management services which is a division of AIMA, scores are accepted by other colleges and universities.
  • CAT entrance exam is organized and managed by IIMs.
  • GMAT is conducted mainly for the students who want to study MBA in US universities.
  • CMAT is computer based test, it is 100 question exam conducted by AICTE.
